Behind the Magazine: Meet Annie

Annie

MEET THE WRITER

Singer / Hamilton rap expert / Allergy and Nap queen

It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally reached our final #BehindTheMagazine contributor! I first met Annie, like so many of the WHW gals, in flat 17. Alongside other contributors, Annie moved to Edinburgh to study for her MA in Creative Writing and I’m so glad she did. To find out more about Annie and the wonderful person she is, read on.

When I moved home for lockdown 2020, we had one final party to celebrate the good times we’d had (and also say goodbye). It was then that we all started a gratitude circle, a moment to say something nice about every person in the room. When it got to my turn, all I could say about Annie was that she was a human ray of sunshine, and quite possibly the nicest person I’d ever met. I’m sure that everyone who has been lucky enough to meet her would say the same.

As well as generally being a great human to be around, Annie is also incredibly talented. From singing to writing, rapping Hamilton (and Moana) to imparting her knowledge of Greek mythology, she’s more than just an allergy and nap queen. To find out more about her Edinburgh journey, check her blog out here.

Women should be able to make their own decisions and chase their own dreams. […] The choice is yours.” – Annie. D

Annie’s non-fiction contribution, “Ring by Spring” offers a well-rounded insight into the institution of marriage and the impact patriarchal expectations have on the female identity. To read her essay in full, check it out here. Her essay is a testament to her open-minded and accepting nature, as well as her talent as a writer. I’m sure this is only the beginning of her writing career, and I have no doubt that you’ll see her name on a published book someday!

Thank you to everyone who has read and supported this series. Stay tuned for more WHW Wednesday posts in the future.
